Emirates
opens a £1.3 million lounge for passengers at Birmingham
Emirates airlines have signalled its
commitment to the region by opening a new £1.3 million lounge at Birmingham International Airport.
Situated in the new
international pier in Terminal 1, the 7,000 square foot facility is the
first dedicated lounge to be offered by a long haul airline at the
airport.
The lounge offers the ultimate
in comfort with luxury leather seating for up to 117 people, plasma TVs
showing the latest news, a business centre with complimentary internet
access and full shower facilities.
It is the latest facility to
open in Emirates’ £48 million worldwide lounge investment
programme. Emirates currently offers almost 800 seats a day from Birmingham to Dubai
and beyond on its two daily flights.
Beijing joins
Emirates A380 ‘Capital Club’
The world’s most
populous country, China,
will fittingly receive the aviation world’s largest commercial
aircraft with the start of Emirates A380 Dubai-Beijing-Dubai services on
01st August 2010.
The new service signals the
first A380 operation to China,
and follows an impressive series of A380-firsts to New Zealand, Thailand
and Korea by the Dubai based airline.
The A380 is the world’s
most environmentally-advanced airline with significant reductions in
noise, emissions and fuel burn against other comparable aircraft.
Emirates A380’s ground
breaking in-flight products include onboard shower spas in the first
class cabin and a onboard lounge for first and business class customers.
With flat-bed massage-equipped
private suites in First class, a new generation of all-aisle flat-bed
seats in Business class, mood lighting ,a second-to-none in-flight
entertainment system featuring over 1200 channels of on demand
entertainment, and a more spacious economy Class.
Emirates currently operate
A380 aircraft on routes to Toronto,
Heathrow,Paris, Seoul,
Bangkok, Sydney,
Auckland, Jeddah and Beijing
from its hub in Dubai.

Further
Ryanair summer expansion
More new routes from
Stansted and East Midlands airport
have been added by Ryanair.
The Budget carrier is to
serve Fez
in Morocco, Figari in Corsica and Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands from Stansted this summer.
Flights to Figari and Fez start on May 4 and to Fuerteventura
May 5 with fares starting at £31.99 one way inclusive of taxes and
charges.
East Midlands will gain
services to Fuerteventura from May 2
and Venice Treviso from May 5 with fares leading in at £29.99 one way
inclusive of taxes and charges.
The expansion by the airline
also includes flights from Cork starting
in June to Alicante, Barcelona
(Reus), Bordeaux,
Faro, La Rochelle, Lanzarote and Malaga.
Luton will gain flights to Bratislava from April and Knock will have a Barcelona service.
Bmi is
Berlin-bound
A new route between Heathrow
and Berlin
is being started by Bmi from March 28.
Business class passengers
will receive hot food and a bar service with seating in a 2:2
configuration, with the middle seat kept free.
Economy passengers receive
free checked baggage to a total weight of 20kg and a complimentary food
service including a hot breakfast and bar service throughout the day.
Barcelona and Madrid from Birmingham
Spanair are to begin the
carrier’s first scheduled service from Birmingham International
to Barcelona and Madrid from May 10.
Spanair is to serve Barcelona four times a week from May 20 and Madrid three
times a week from 25 May.
Romanian
Airline expands from Luton
Additional flights to Romania are to run from Luton this summer.
Romanian carrier Blue Air is
expanding its network from March 28 with daily flights to Bucharest, four flights a week to Sibiu
and three a week to Bacau.

British
Airways cabin crew strike
Unite, The trade union that
represents the majority of British Airways cabin crew, has announced
its intention to take strike action in the following dates :

27, 28, 29 and 30 March 2010
All of BA’s flights will
operate as normal up until the first day of the strike.
All flights from London City
and all long-haul flights from Gatwick and all flights operated by
BA’s franchise, codeshare and alliance partners will continue to
operate normally throughout any strike period.
We are currently sweeping the
system for the flights which have been affected and shall be in contact
with all affected travellers and/or bookers.

Algerian
Embassy
Algeria is
hosting the LNG (Liquid & Natural Gas) summit, on April 14th.
The Consulate here is expected to prioritise requests for that event and
process an additional 4,000 applications.
Those not attending the summit
are advised to summit their applications well in advance of their travel
dates to ensure clients’ intended departure dates are met.
Same Day
processing for Indian Visas
The Indian High commission is
pleased to announce a same day processing service for urgent business
visas.
Applicants for a same day visa
must submit the required standard business visa documents. Please note
the company letter and the invitation from India must both explain the
reasons why an urgent business visa is needed.

Reminder of
the Change to Breakfast Trains
EMT are still finding
passengers asking for Breakfast on the 0741 train from Sheffield to London St Pancras.
Please be aware that since the
December timetable change EMT no longer offer a full breakfast on the
0741 and have replaced it with the 0556 from Sheffield to London. The 0741
later service will however, still offer a full range of breakfast snacks.
